OliKrom develops intelligent color change materials, including high performance inks and paints.

The new edition of the Open Innovation competition is open. The call for projects launched by the Cosmetic Valley competitiveness cluster invites applicants to submit their innovative project before August 31, 2022. The prize is meetings with experts from major groups in the perfumery and cosmetics industry such as Chanel, L’Oréal Research & Innovation, LVMH Research, Pharma & Beauty Group during an event. It will be on October 12 and 13, 2022 in Paris at the Carrousel du Louvre, during the international exhibition of innovations in this sector, Cosmetic 360.

Entrepreneurs or project leaders, all people from SMEs, startups, ETIs or research laboratories are invited to submit their application to the annual competition. Whether it is a product, a service, a technology or an innovative process, the file must contain the presentation of potential applications in the field of cosmetics and perfumery. The challenge? To meet industry professionals and consider partnerships, synergies, and even collaborations with them. But also to understand the expectations and position its offers on this dynamic market.

We had the opportunity to present our latest innovations around the intelligence of colors to the actors of the cosmetics industry, in order to prepare tomorrow’s trends,” says Jean-François Létard, CEO of OliKrom, candidate of the Open Innovation 2021 edition, who underlines the importance and the requirement of these meetings.

The startup OliKrom develops intelligent color-changing materials, including high-performance inks and paints. These initial links with the perfumery and cosmetics industry have laid the foundations for the future application of the processes invented by the company to skincare and beauty products. As Jean-François Létard points out, “this exchange allowed us to better understand how to adapt our technology to this industry.”.

Innovations that support the entire cosmetics value chain

The innovations presented at Cosmetic 360 concern the entire cosmetic value chain. They must respond to the 6 challenges identified by manufacturers in this sector: safety, traceability / product and process performance / naturalness / CSR commitment / digitalization, connected beauty / new technologies and processes.

For the 8ᵉ edition of this call for applications, Cosmetic Valley is focusing on the development themes of specific products, services, technologies or processes. The categories for the 2022 edition are:

  • New active or functional ingredients,
  • Formulated products (skincare, make-up, hygiene, perfumes…),
Measurement methods and instruments applicable to the product and its interaction with the biological support (skin, hair…),
  • Biological and sensory tests,
  • Innovative equipment and processes dedicated to manufacturing and packaging,
  • Treatment of galenic processes (powders, emulsions, gels, serums, butters…),
  • Tracing methods for raw materials and finished products,
  • Innovative packaging.

Disruptive solutions (digital or physical) for distribution, transport, logistics or consumer experience.
As for the fields involved, their variety is an invitation in itself: biosourcing, green chemistry, sustainability, artificial intelligence, imaging technology, microbiology, well-being, toxicology, formulation, vectorization, neuroscience, CSR… This profusion of innovative ideas should help develop the sector and make it shine ever more brightly.

With some success: since the launch of Open Innovation in 2015, more than 1,400 projects have been presented and 600 appointments honored, with applicants from 35 different countries.

Applications are open until August 31, 2022. Fill out this form now to take advantage of this opportunity.
