Eco-sustainable innovation for the safety and comfort of road users

"Although its signage division does not yet cover the entire country in road marking, Eiffage Route is now innovating from the top with LuminoKrom, a paint with high added value for user safety. Thanks to OliKrom, our expertise in paints is now a strong point enabling us to become a major player," says François Olard, Director of Research & Innovation at Eiffage Infrastructures.

LuminoKrom® is a photoluminescent road paint that emits light without electrical energy. Its pigments capture the sun's energy during the day and give off light intensity at night. The main benefit is to enhance road safety by improving the visibility of road markings at night and in poor weather conditions, such as fog or rain.

The adventure began three years ago.

For the record, I got in touch with contact with OliKrom following an interview with its founder broadcast on a news channel. The first feasibility study was carried out in the laboratory over two years ago. It was followed by many round trips. The R&D and formulation of the paint are carried out by OliKrom. Eiffage Route's expertise in the field is used to develop technical specifications such as viscosity, adhesion and photometric characteristics. Ifsttar is also a partner for the characterization of non-standard performances, in particular visibility distances or the perception of the paint in degraded conditions."

While waiting for the certification by by the State services necessary for the for the horizontal marking of roadways applications dedicated to improving to enhance safety and comfort are already numerous.

LuminoKrom was presented at the 2018 Salon des Maires.
